Jovaki Agrofood India Pvt. Ltd founded by Rajesh Kumar Oza, a leading Udaipur based startup that is currently providing 2400 tribal people with a living.

Rajesh Kumar incorporated Jovaki Agrofood India Pvt Ltd in 2017. He has a degree in commerce from the University of Rajasthan and has expertise and experience in sales and marketing. Being an entrepreneur, he has tried marketing different products. Besides entrepreneurial skills, he has more than five years of experience in farm and forest-based value chain, models.

Jovaki Agrofood India Pvt Ltd is now a developed chain of underutilized forest fruits like Custard apple and Jamun. They have their base in a tribal zone in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The company intends to provide the tribal people with a livelihood and empower tribal women by enabling them to earn for their families.

As of now, Jovaki has served the community by employing 600 tribal Women with the production of two product lines, Custard apple, and Jamun pulp. They have offered livelihood to around 2500 tribal people in 12 villages in their nearby vicinity.

What’s Jovaki Agrofood India about?

  1. Extracting the pulp from the fruits.
  2. The pulp is packed and frozen.
  3. Using a standardized rejuvenation technology for increasing the shelf life and productivity of the frozen pulp.
  4. Served in the Market.

Their vision is to expand as much possible and provide employment opportunities to more and more tribals.

Currently, they are working with two product lines, but in the coming years, they are planning to increase its product line in frozen Fruit and Frozen mix vegetables and extend its setups and its processing units in the 2 -3 states of the country. Their primary vision is to increase the Product line to get more involvement of the tribal community, which leads to growth in their family income.

Idea and Inspiration behind the Startup!

The cultivation of custard apples is tremendous in the tribal zone of Udaipur. As it was perishable, it was not fully utilized, which resulted in the bulk waste. Besides this, there was no other source of income for the tribals in these zones considering. Keeping all these factors in mind, they developed a value chain wherein the pre and post-harvesting work, along with the processing of fruits, is done by tribal women. Consequently, there was a reduction in wastage of fruits and enhancement in the family incomes of tribals.

Challenges they faced in the outset!

The biggest challenge for the company was to begin its production in a remote area. Besides, it was a difficult task to gain the trust of the tribal community and get their involvement in the company—training of the tribals for the development of the pre and post-harvesting skills.

However, the company have overcome it and will always work on improving their standards.

Company’s current growth status!

There is a tremendous improvement in Javkoi’s yearly growth. They multiply three times a year.

2017- It was the initial year of the company. They started with the processing of custard apple’s pulp with 2-ton quantity and employed 75 women.

2018- The processing of Custard Apple increased to 5 tons. They also began the sampling of Jamun pulp. By then, they have employed 130 tribal women.

2019- The production of frozen Sitafal pulp raised to 18 tonnes and Frozen Jamun pulp by 2 tons. They began the sampling of Frozen Green channa to add it as a new product line for next year. They had employed 600 tribal women.

2020- Their target for this year is 40 tons processing of Sitafal, 20 tons of Jamun, and 5 tons of frozen green Channa. They are developing a new product line of frozen mix vegetables, which will ultimately scale up the growth rate and benefit the Tribal community.
