1. Sudha Murthy

Born on 19th August 1950 in Shiggaon, Karnataka, Sudhar Murthy was born in a Deshastha Madhwa Brahmin family. Her father was Dr. R. H. Kulkarni, a surgeon and her mother, Vimala Kulkarni. Her childhood experiences and being raised by her parents and maternal grandparents helped her in writing her first piece of work, How I Taught My Grandmother to Read and other stories.

2. Sudha Murthy Education and Career

Sudha had her parent’s support when she decided to deviate from her father’s profession and pursued B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from B.V.B. College of Engineering and Technology (now KLE Technological University). She was an intelligent student, and she aced in all her classes and received a gold medal from Chief Minister of Karnataka. After completing B.E., she further studied M.E. in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science, where she stood first in her class again and received another gold medal from the Indian Institute of Engineers.

She was the first engineer to be work at India’s largest auto manufacturer, TATA Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), where she worked in various locations as a development engineer. In 1996, she founded the Infosys Foundation and, to date, is a Trustee of Infosys Foundation and a visiting professor at Banglore University.

Married to N.R. Narayana Murthy and have two children, Akshata and Rohan, who are well settled and lead a happy life. People know Sudha Murthy as a social worker, an author, but what they don’t know is that she is a big-time movie buff too. The Murthy’s Infosys Foundation is a public charitable trust that was founded in 1996 and Murthy is one of the trustees.

The foundation has helped her build 2,300 houses in flood-affected regions and she is helping out in building 16,000 public toilets and few hundred toilets in Bengaluru. Her field of work covers healthcare, education, empowerment of women, art and culture, public hygiene, and poverty alleviation at ground level.
