How three engineering students are trying to transform the solar industry

R J Rahewar, currently pursuing B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from the Institute Of Advanced Research- Gandhinagar, noticed that dirt and dust decreased the efficiency of a solar plant by 18-90% with cleanliness services being costly. Rahewar decided to tackle this issue with Jay Patel & Zaid Kesarani, both pursuing B.Tech in Computer Engineering, and co-founded SVA ROBOTICS in July 2019.

Hailing from the city of Ahmedabad, Rahewar has completed Rooftop Solar Grid Engineering from the Gujarat Institute of Solar Energy and also stands as the President of the Entrepreneurship club of his college.

While completing his Solar Grid Engineering, Rahewar noticed that the cleanliness devices used for cleaning solar power plants were costlier than the power generated by that particular power plant. The average cost to clean up a 3kWp plant is around Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 for 3-4 times wash annually, which reduces the cost-effectiveness of the idea of installing a solar power plant.

As a solution, Rahewar said that they decided to clean the solar PV modules at minor prices with services available 24×7 and 365 days on their mobile app and website. Being from a computer background, Patel & Kesarani used their knowledge of coding and microcontrollers & electric components while Rahewar used his expertise to formulate his idea for SVA Robotics in the electronics lab of IAR, Gandhinagar, under the guidance of Dr. Abhay Dinker who mentored them into their journey to develop their prototype.

The startup, in its prototype development stage, has been incubated at GUSEC. Rahwar told TimesNext,

“As an Incubation Center, GUSEC provided all facilities that can be facilitated by Incubator or Nodal Institute. Data analytics company based in Ahmedabad approached us! They’re interested in pre-seed funding for SVA Robotics LLP. They will invest in SVA ROBOTICS LLP for the first 15-20 prototype developments once after we provide them POC [Proof of Concept].”

The team of SVA will be completing their first fully-functional working prototype, post which they plan to process over 15-20 devices and install them in various places with various environmental conditions to test and collect data from projecting its life cycle & warranty.

SVA Robotics LLP has been DIPP Recognized by Startup India and is eligible for all the benefits provided to a startup under Startup India Initiative. The firm intends to avail government funding to develop its final product, scaling up their company.

The company aims to reach residential and small scale solar power plants with their various subscription plans & deposit services, making SVA a perfect market fit organization. SVA has already been working on many more projects that solve day to day life problems of inhabitants like, AI-based delivery systems.
