1. CV Raman (1888-1970)

CV Raman’s full name was Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman. CV was born on 7 November 1888 in Tiruchirapalli.

  1. CV Raman won Nobel prize in physics for Raman Effect in 1930.
  2. He was the first non-white ad Asian to won Nobel prize in the field of science.
  3. He even worked upon the acoustics of musical instruments.
  4. CV was the first person to study the harmonic nature of Sound of Indian musical instruments like a tabla.
  5. Raman passed matriculation at the age of 11. At 13 years of age, he passed the Intermediate level exam and went to Presidency College in the year 1902.
  6. He ditched his government job in the Finance Department of Colonial govt and his position of first-ever Palit Physics prof at the University of Calcutta in the year 1917.
  7. He was the first Indian director of IIS, Indian Institute of Science, in the year 1933.
  8. He was the first national professor of India.

2. Homi J. Bhabha (1909-1966)

Homi was one of the most talented Indian Scientists. He was born on October 30, 1909, in Bombay (now Mumbai)

  2. He was the first chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India.
  3. He kickstarted his career in nuclear physics in the field of Science in Great Britain. Subsequently, he returned to India.

3. Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920)

4. Salim Ali (1896-1987)

5. APJ Abdul Kalam (1931-2015)

APJ Abdul Kalam’s full name was Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. He was born on October 15 in 1931.

  1. He is among those Indian Scientists who worked for the Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO and Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO as an aerospace engineer.
  2. He started his career as an Indian scientist by building a small helicopter for the Indian Army.
  3. He was a part of INCOSPAR, a committee operating under Vikram Sarabhai.
  4. He was also the 11th president of India. He served from 2002 to 2007.
  5. He wrote his plans to develop India by 2020 in his book ‘Indian 2020.’
  6. He was bestowed with several awards, including Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor.

6. Vikram Sarabhai (1919-1971)

Vikram Sarabhai, the Father of India’s space program, was born on August 12, 1919, in Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

  1. He played an essential role in setting up ISRO, the Indian Space Research Organization.
  2. He was the one who explained the Indian government about the importance of the space program for the development of the country.
  3. He was felicitated with Padma Bhushan in 1966.

7. S Chandrashekar (1910-1995)

Astrophysicist, Chandrashekhar was one of the most exceptional Indian scientists. He was born on October 19, 1910, in Lahore.

  1. He was awarded Nobel prize in 1983 for his mathematical theory of black holes in physics.
  2. He has a ‘Chandrashekar limit’ named after his name.
  3. He was a relative of CV Raman and became a US citizen in 1953.
  4. He also worked upon the radiation of energy from stars.
  5. Chandrashekar passed away at 82 in Chicago.

8. Satyendra Nath Bose (1894-1974)

Born on 1 January 1894 in Calcutta, Satyendra Nath Bose is among the famous Indian scientists.

  1. He was an Indian physicist and had expertise in Quantum Mechanics.
  2. He is remembered for his work on ‘bosons’ which is named after him.
  3. Einstein translated and published Bose’s article on ‘Planck’s Law and Hypothesis of Light Quanta.’ Thus Bose-Einstein statistics was formulated.
  4. Rabindranath Tagore dedicated his only science book ‘Visva–Parichay’ to Bose in 1937.

9. Meghnad Saha (1893-1956)

Born on 6 October 1893 in Dhaka in Bangladesh, Meghnad Saha is one of the most excellent Indian Scientists.

  2. He formulated the Saha Equation based on his work. This eq is one of the necessary tools for the interpretation of the spectra of stars.

10. Jagadish Chandra Bose (1858-1937)

Born on November 30, 1858, in Bikrampur in West Bengal, Jagadish was one of the best Indian Scientists. He was a polymath, a physicist, a biologist, a botanist, and also an archaeologist.
