Hotstar is an over-the-top streaming service based in India. It is owned by Novi Digital Entertainment which is a subsidiary of Star India.

It was launched in February 2014. This is an ad-supported service that initially featured around 35,000 hours of content in a wide range of regional languages alongside live streaming coverage of sports.

In April 2016, Hotstar launched a tier of subscription oriented towards the live and premium as well as international content. This service also includes the content of HBO such as the season 6 premiere of Game of Thrones.

By the year 2019, the service had 150 million active users every month. During the same year, Hotstar and Star were acquired by The Walt Disney Company.

Hotstar is accessible via both the website as well as mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. The service includes both a free ad-supported as well as two subscription-based tiers.
