Importance of Women Empowerment in India
It is a woman who performs a central part in a child’s basic life. Women consistently are an integral part of our society. Education, as a tool for women empowerment in India, will lead to a positive change in attitude. Thus it is crucial for India’s cultural-economic and political development.
Schemes for Women Empowerment in India
There is a total of 15 schemes that are currently being successfully working. However, the top 5 significant programs of government under the Ministry of Women and Child Development for Women Empowerment in India are below:-
1. Mahila E-Haat
The Ministry of Women & Child Development launched “Mahila E-Haat,” a bilingual portal on 7th March 2016. A unique direct online marketing platform leveraging technology for supporting women entrepreneurs/SHGs/NGOs for showcasing the products/services which are made/manufactured/ undertaken by them. It is an initiative for meeting the aspirations and needs of women.
This exclusive portal is the first in the country to provide a unique, focused marketing platform for women. Being a bilingual portal, it aims at financial inclusion and economic empowerment of women. This unique e-platform showcases products and services.
2. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a flagship scheme of Government of India, launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 22nd January 2015 in Panipat, Haryana, to arrest the declining Child Sex Ratio and other similar matters empowerment of Women over a lifecycle continuum.
It’s a tri ministerial, convergent initiative of Ministries of Women and Child Development, Health and Family Welfare, and Human Resource Development.
3. One-Stop Centre
The One-Stop Center would provide aid and support both in the private and public areas to women impacted by abuse and is a great step towards women empowerment in India. If girls are below 18 then, they are directed to the Centre, they will be treated in conjunction with officials/organizations formed under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Child Protection Protection Act, 2000) and the Sexual Offense Protection Act, 2012.
Another objective of this OSC is to facilitate immediate, emergency, and non-emergency access to a range of services, including medical, legal, psychological, and counseling support under one roof to fight against any forms of violence against women.
- Emergency Response and Rescue Services — OSC would provide services to emergency and referral women affected by abuse. For this, 108 emergency services (PCR Van), such that the violence-affected woman is either rescued from the site and transferred to the nearest four medical facilities (Public/ Private) or shelter home.
- Medical help — Females affected by abuse would be referred to the nearest medical assistance/assessment hospital conducted in compliance with the standards and protocols defined by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
- Help women in registering FIR/ NCR/DIR
- Shelter – Temporary housing will be provided to aggrieved women. Women harmed by violence together with their infants (girls of all ages and boys up to eight years of age) may take advantage of temporary housing at the OSC for up to 5 days. Any female’s admissibility to temporary accommodation would be at the Centre’s control.
4. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana
The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana drops under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme and is a government-sponsored savings program targeting girl children especially to boost women empowerment in India.
Only one bank account is permitted per child and parents having deposited in it a minimal of Rs 1,000. The number of transactions is not limited, whether in a month or a financial year. The acct pays an 8.6 percent return.
The bank account can be opened by a parent or legal guardian at any India Post office or branch of an approved bank at whatever time between the child’s birth and until the child ages to 10.
The girl child may run the account until she hit the age of 10 as well as the account enables 50 % withdrawal at the age of 18 for higher studies.
After opening the account, it reaches maturity within 21 years. Until the account finishes 14 years, deposits can be made. And after that, the standard rate of interest will be implied.
5. UJJAWALA
Comprehensive Child prostitution and Recovery Prevention Program, Rehab, and Reintegration of Victims of Trafficking for Commercial Sexual Exploitation (Effective 1st April 2016) was launched by the government for women empowerment in India.
Objectives
- To promote freeing victims from their place of abuse and to bring them in safe custody.
- To promote the survivor’s reintegration into the family and community.
- To encourage the repatriation of transboundary victims to their home country.
- To provide rehabilitation services, both immediate and long-term, to the victims by providing basic amenities/needs such as shelter, food, clothing, medical treatment including counseling, legal aid and guidance, and vocational training.
Women Power
Women empowerment in India is very pessary about making the family, society, and country promising future. Women are equally as talented as men. The primary benefit of empowering women is that the community will grow ultimately.
The government is taking every possible step to make the country a fully formed country, in which empowerment for women is also one of the critical things to achieve the growth target.
