Indian women’s Hockey team captain Rani Rampal became the first-ever Hockey player in the world to win the “World Games Athlete of the year “.

More than 705,610 votes during the poll, out of which with an impressive vote count of 199,477 Rani, is the clear winner of Athlete of the Year Race.

Rani was awarded as the player of the Tournament last year when India won the FIH Series Finals. Under her guidance, the Indian Women’s team qualified for the third Olympic games in history.

On winning the Award, Rani Addressed, ” I dedicate the award to my team and my country. This Success was possible only with the love and the support from my team, coaches, Hockey lovers, fellow sportspersons, and fellow citizens who continuously voted for me.”

She thanked FIH for nominating her name for the prestigious award.

“Thank you, World Federation, for this recognition.”

At the outset, there were 25 nominations for this award by their respective international sports federation, which got reduced to 10 in the public voting final round.

With over 92,000 votes, Karate Star Stanislav Horuna of Ukraine stood second, and Canadian powerlifting world champion Rhaea Stinn stood Third.

This is a great recognition for Hockey globally. On acknowledgment of her outstanding performances, FIH has recommended her name as her ability to lead by example.
