Top 10 Reality TV Shows in India

1. Bigg Boss

Bigg Boss is an Indian television reality TV show produced by Endemolshine India. The show has seven versions in seven languages in India. The Hindi version of Bigg Boss debuted in 2006. Now the show has expanded to Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Malayalam.

In the show, contestants are isolated from the outside world and live in a house together. The elimination of the contestants is based on voting, tasks, and the last one remaining in the house wins a cash prize. The housemates are monitored continuously during their stay in the show.

The contestants are assigned tasks daily by the authority figure Bigg Boss; they have to participate in household tasks such as cleaning, washing clothes, cooking, etc. There is a luxury budget given to the house for items other than necessities; its amount depends on the task performed. Every week an elimination voting round is organized in which the housemates vote privately in the confession room. The audience is also allowed to vote to save or evict a contestant from the house.

Bigg Boss is based on the show Big Brother which gained immense popularity when Shilpa Shetty won it. The show aired on Sony Entertainment for the first season. Arshad Warsi was the host for season 1 and Shilpa Shetty for season 2. After that, Amitabh Bachchan hosted the show for the third season. Salman Khan has been the show host since season 4. Atul Kapoor is the voice of Bigg Boss since season one. The winning prize was INR 1 crore in the first four seasons; from the fifth season, it has been reduced to INR 50 Lakh.

2. KBC

This was also Amitabh Bachchan’s television debut. Season one aired from 2000 to 2001, and it has a winning prize of INR 1 crore.

For season two, Amitabh Bachchan was again roped in as the host, but he fell ill during the show due to which Star Plus dropped the show abruptly. Shahrukh Khan hosted the third season, which had a winning prize of INR 2 crore. The rating of the show went down due to the change of the host. For season 4, Amitabh Bachchan made a comeback as KBC’s host. It aired on Sony Entertainment television instead of Star Plus. The winning prize was reduced to INR 1 crore with a unique question to earn INR 5 crore.

The significant change in season five was ‘single padao’ for every contestant. The tagline of the season five was Koi Bhi Insaan Chota Nahi Hota. It also included the Ghar baithe jeeto jackpot segment in the show. Season six aired in 2012 with the tagline ‘Sirf Gyan hi aapko aapka haq dilayega,’ this season gave socially excluded people another chance.

The show selects boys and girls as contestants for the show. The participants of the show have to live in a villa isolated from the world.
