Never Have I Ever: A Teenage Sitcom Series

Never Have I Ever

Mindy Kaling’s latest series Never Have I Ever, is finally here after months of anticipation – and we’ll never be the same again. The Netflix series, released on 27 April, observes a sophomore Devi Vishwakumar, a girl from South Asia who grew up in the Los Angeles area. She’s smart, self-centered, and with a variety of relationships.

In the horrible summer, Devi lost her father, and later she was partially paralyzed. Then, we meet Devi; the usually calm, studious teen is on a mission to have a different kind of year. Her targets? Get intimate with the hottest guy at school and get famous. The Netflix show tackles many heavy topics such as death, sadness, and sexuality.

You are sorely mistaken if you think this concept sounds like every other teen show you’ve watched. Never Have I Ever is a must watch show for everybody out there. This series is an utter pleasure to watch and one of the latest binge-watches that you can do right now.

Never Have I Ever starts with a tragedy when the protagonist Devi Vishwakumar’s father unexpectedly dies, and shortly afterward, Devi mysteriously loses her legs. As Devi continues to get used to life without her father and her illness, her independence starts returning almost as mysteriously as it left. Never Have I Ever is the tale of Devi’s effort to respond to regular life, and Devi wants to return with a bang by losing her virginity to Paxton Hall-Yoshida, the school’s hottest guy.

While each character can not have their subplot, they are given the opportunity for depth. Each character is going through something, witnessing their underlying traumas in their life. The show’s central struggle is Devi’s failure to understand the cycle of coping with the exceptional sorrow that blinds her to see what others are feeling and that incorrectly handling the pain may often cost her the bonds that can enable her to move on.

Never Have I Ever is not only an Indian-American twist on the story of the new age but also a tale that takes concepts from adolescent rom-com and transforms them into a medium to express sorrow. None of this takes a backseat to the humor of Never Have I Ever. The series tried to hold the stakes low and centered on Devi, her friends, and family, but they are also supported by a community of varied and engaging enough friends and family to sustain a far larger screen.

Conclusion

Never Have I Ever displays the story of the complicated life of an Indian American teenage girl belonging to the modern-day century. The series is influenced by the childhood of the creator, Mindy Kaling. Devi’s path from having a partner and family problems to receiving everything she desired, the show is incredibly fascinating.
