Introduction
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi or PM Kisan is an initiative by the government of India through which all farmer families are entitled to get up to Rs 6,000 per year as minimum income support. This scheme is effective from 1.12.2018.
The scheme was announced by Piyush Goyal, the Union Railway Minister, in the 2019 annual union budget session.
The last date of registration for the scheme was 28 February 2020.
2. Objectives of PM Kisan Yojana scheme
The objectives of the PM Kisan Samman scheme are:
a) To boost the income of small and marginal farmers.
b) The scheme will also help protect farmers from taking the help of moneylenders and falling in the never-ending cycle of paying interest. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna would ensure that farmers continue their profession without feeling any financial burdens.
3. Eligibility Criteria for the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana
The government laid bare the definition of family for the scheme to prevent any confusion. A family willing to benefit from the PM Kisan scheme must comply with this definition- “a family comprising of husband, wife and minor children who collectively own cultivable land up to 2 hectares as per land records of the concerned State/UT”. The state and UT governments are vested with the duty to identify such families and prevent any discrepancies.
4. Changed Eligibility criteria and documents required:
A. The landowner’s name and gender and category.
B. Social classification should be mentioned.
C. The farmers will have to the following document details- citizenship certificate, Aadhaar Number( or any other photo identification proof issued by the GOI), bank account details, and mobile number.
On one June 2019, the government made some crucial changes in the scheme, and some changes were regarding the eligibility rules. The latest eligibility guidelines that have to be followed are-
A) All landholding farmers’ families possessing cultivable landholdings are eligible for the PM Kisan scheme. The earlier limit of 2 hectares of landholdings has been omitted.
B) Both urban and rural areas farmers can apply fo the scheme.
C) Small and marginal farmers’ families have been excluded as per the latest amendments made in the scheme. They are no longer eligible for the PM Kisan Yojna.
D) A separate list has been prepared for all those beneficiaries who are no longer eligible for the scheme. This list can be checked on the official website – www.pmkisan.gov.in.
5. How to check the PM Kisan beneficiary list
A) Visit the pm Kisan Samman Nidhi portal Kisan portal.
B) Click the farmer’s corner option and select the beneficiary list option.
C) Enter the details and select the option – Get Data.
6. Pm Kisan Samman Nidhi Mobile App
The government has launched a mobile app to spread the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme to an increased number of farmers. The mobile app was launched by the Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar, to commemorate the first anniversary of the scheme, which was started on 24 February 2019.

7. Procedure to apply for the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna
As per the latest guidelines, farmers can apply only through online mode. Either they can self-register themselves or visit their nearest Common Service Centres (CSCs). These are the following steps which can be followed to self- register for the scheme-
A) Visit the official website- pmkisan.gov.in
B) Select the Farmers Corner tab.
C) Click on the New Farmers Registration option. Enter your Aadhar card number.
D) Fill in the registration form entering all correct personal details. Click on the save option.
E) Upon successfully registering for the scheme, you will receive a confirmation SMS on the registered mobile number.
8. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Portal
Under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, farmers will be able to see the status of their registration, Aadhaar modification, and application through the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Portal right from their home. The facilities have been started on the portal by the government through which the farmers will not have to visit offices to take advantage of the scheme.
Under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna, three new facilities have been started on the portal by the government. After the introduction of these facilities, the farmers will be able to take advantage of the scheme by sitting at the portal. The facility has been made available through the Farmer’s corner window on the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Portal. Links have been provided by the government in the name of Aadhaar Aadhaar Details, New Farmer Registration, and the Beneficiary States.
9. PM Kisan Samman scheme status
Farmers can make use of the mobile app to check the payment status and other details. They can also contact the helpline number in case of further doubts. Farmers can check the status of their registration, modify their Aadhaar details, and application through the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Portal right from their homes. This facility is available on the PM Kisan Samman portal.
Farmers can access these from the Farmer’s corner window on the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Portal. The government has provided links in the name of Aadhaar Aadhaar Details, New Farmer Registration, and the Beneficiary States.
10. PM Kisan Yojna list status 2020
Pm Kisan Samman Nidhi yojana updated list is available on PmKisan.gov.in. All the applicants who have applied can check the Pm Kisan list, and new farmers can also register them on the pm Kisan portal. The application status can be checked with an Aadhar card. Alternatively, the application status could also be changed using the bank account number and mobile number.
9.74 crore farmers have been associated with PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna. The government has set a target of connecting 14 crore farmers with it. So far, 8.45 crore farmers have been paid after matching the state government figures.
11. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme Review Committee
A comprehensive monitoring mechanism is placed for the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna.
At the Centre, a high-Level committee comprising of Union Ministers of Finance, Agriculture, and Land Resources, is there to make all necessary modifications required in the PM Kisan Yojna.
A review committee has been set at the National level under the chairmanship of cabinet secretary with secretaries of Department of Expenditure, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare, Land Resources and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, where the members periodically review and monitors the implementation of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.
The Central project monitoring Units under JS-level CEO monitors the implementation and publicity of the Yojna. At the States/UTs level, Nodal Department and PMUs constantly monitor implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojna.
12. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme financial framework
A) For the financial year2018-19, the budget provision of Rs. Twenty thousand crores were kept for the PM Kisan scheme.
B) In the current financial year 2019-20, the budget provision has been increased and is kept at Rs. 75,000 crores.

1. What is PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana?
Under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana scheme, small and marginal farmers are given three installments of Rs 2-2 thousand a year (total 6000 rupees).
2. How can Farmers register for PM Kissan Samman Yojna?
Eligible beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojna can register themselves through the Common Service Center (CSC). Apart from this, only the local Patwari, Revenue Officer, and Nodal Officer nominated by the State Government for the scheme can register the farmers.

The finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, on 26 March 2020, announced that all those farmers who were waiting for their installment amount would get them in the first week of April itself. This decision was made keeping in mind the lockdown announced by the PM due to the widespread coronavirus pandemic.
