The infection which occurs in the Sinus when the nasal cavities become infected, swollen and inflamed is commonly known as the Sinus infection or the Rhinosinusitis.

The Sinus infection is usually caused due to a virus that remains to stay in the body even after the symptoms regarding the disease are gone. In some rare cases, the reason for the infection can be fungus or bacteria. To keep yourself informed regarding such issues, some common symptoms include allergies, nasal polyps, and tooth infection; these symptoms can also be the reason for sinus pain.

There could be two different sinus infections, the acute one or the chronic one. Acute sinus infection lasts for a shorter period, almost less than four weeks, and people may face cold or other respiratory illnesses. But the Chronic sinus infection lasts more than three months and can even reoccur from time to time. The symptoms of chronic sinus infection include facial pains, nasal discharge, and congestion. A nasal decongestant spray is usually used to relieve the sinus infections if the symptoms are short term and don’t possess any severe conditions. Although, one shouldn’t be using the spray continuously as it can have a rebound effect. Some of the other medicines that can be included for the treatment for the sinus infection are mentioned below.

  • Zyrtec(2)
  • Allegra
  • Claritin

Although people who have issues like High Blood pressure, prostate issues, glaucoma, or sleeping difficulty should surely get along with a doctor in case of such a problem. Moreover, with these symptoms, some of the methods to avoid and treat sinus infections are mentioned below that one can choose for their issues to be handled and make them back to healthy.

  • Nasal Irrigation

Nasal irrigation is a useful method for acute and chronic sinus infection and allergic rhinitis and allergies. In this method, one has to make a nasal solution at home through 1 cup of warm water mixed with ½ tsp of table salt and ½ tsp of baking soda and used just like a nasal spray. This mixture clears up the Sinus and relieves dryness like issues.

  • Herbal Treatment

Treatments through herbs are one of the most common methods in Europe and help in treating sinus infections. However, one should not take or bring out experiments to treat their Sinus by mixing medicinal herbs at home instead of choosing a doctor to do so.

  • Antibiotics

Antibiotics like amoxicillin are generally used to treat acute sinus infections. These antibiotics should only be used as per the advice of doctors and as per their recommendation. There might be side effects such as diarrhea, stomach issues, etc. that might get involved while taking antibiotics.

 

Sinus Infection in Children

Children are the one who commonly faces such issues as sinus infections and encounter problems due to it. Some of the symptoms that your child must be going through are mentioned below; if one encounters such situations, people should surely get their younger ones checked up.

  • Cold with a fever for almost seven days.
  • Swelling around the eyes
  • Thick discharge from the nose
  • Issues in breathing
  • Coughing, nausea or vomiting
  • Headaches or earaches

Even for the children, conventional medicines like nasal sprays can be used as per doctor’s recommendation. One should surely not give their children medicine to decongest cold issues if they are less than two years. Most of the children recover on their own from sinus infections; if this has not happened in almost a week, one should get their child checked up by the ENT specialist who can take a closer look at the issues.
