NITI Aayog released its first Innovative Index on Thursday and ranked Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Haryana in its top five states in innovation. NITI Aayog’s vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar and CEO Amitabh Kant released the index that has been developed into the lines of the Global Innovation Index.
Some other states to feature the most innovative states index are Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, while the cities to top the UT index list are According to reports, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Goa. Chattisgarh, Bihar, and Jharkhand are at the bottom of the list of innovative states.
The Indian Innovation Index 2019 looks into the innovation ecosystem of Indian states and UTs to help policymakers in designing policies to drive innovation across regions.
Other states that topped the innovation index are Kerela, UP, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat. The report that captures trends and has done a deep-dive analysis of various factors responsible for driving innovation in the country, state, and pillar levels, envisions policymakers and corporates to help identify some issues at a sustainable level in India.
Intriguing investments into states
The index is grouped into two principal heads- enablers, factors that will drive innovation in states and Union Territories, and performance, that will measure the real outcomes in the innovation competitiveness of the states and UTs.
Jharkhand, Bihar, and Punjab are the least attractive states for investment. Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura ranked as the top three states in Northeast and Hill states while amongst the Union Territories, Lakshadweep, Delhi, and Goa were ranked as the top three regions.
Kant said that the India Innovation Index is another initiative that has been launched by the Niti Aayog to analyze and enhance the innovation environment at the state level in India.
