The investment in Mastree will help the edtech platform Unacademy further strengthen its place in the K12 learning space.

Edtech startup Unacademy (1) has acquired a majority stake in leading K12 learning platform Mastree with a strategic investment of $5 million. The investment will make Mastree a part of the Bengaluru-based platform’s Unacademy Group which comprises of Wifistudy, Kreatryx, CodeChef, and PrepLadder.

The investment will play a pivotal role in further strengthening the edtech platform’s presence in the K12 learning segment.

K12 learning refers to education imparted to students from the kindergarten to 12th standard and is a widely used term in edtech.

Mastree, founded by Shrey Goyal and Royal Jain in October 2019, recognized the gaps in functional learning and the challenging transition to middle school for both students and parents. The platform aims to serve as a bridge to these gaps by strengthening the foundation and inspire students to achieve excellence.

Co-Founder & CEO of Unacademy, Gaurav Munjal, talked about the investment and said that Unacademy and Mastree hold a shared vision and can together create a wider impact by making quality education accessible and affordable. Mastree is currently building a highly impactful subscription product that will change the way students learn.

Unacademy also provided Blume Ventures with an exit.

Personalized & Affordable Education for All

The K12 learning platform is building a one-stop subscription product for STEAM- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics- courses for 5th to 8th classes. It will include live class sessions in small groups in which students can work on their curriculum, as well as on personality development skills like public speaking, amongst others.

Shrey Goyal, Co-founder at Mastree, said that Mastree’s mission is to help students achieve academic excellence by igniting their curiosity and providing them with a personalized and affordable education that makes them shine brighter.

“We are excited to be a part of the Unacademy Group and have the Unacademy team as a partner and mentor in this journey,” he added.

Edtech platform Unacademy aims to bring quality and affordable education to all students by allowing them to learn from the best educators in India. The edtech giant currently has over 20k educators, over 30 million+ learners, and serves more than 35 exam categories.
