Nokia-Flipkart partner for smart TV launch, supports production with Make in India

Finnish company Nokia partners ecommerce giant Flipkart to launch the company’s smart TVs in India. The leading online marketplace would not only be distributing the smart Nokia TVs but would also be handling its production in India, encouraging Make in India, and will also be working with the promotions & research-backed product development.

The ecommerce giant stated that it had conducted market research to determine the features for the Nokia TV range, which includes JBL-powered audio systems providing for superior sound quality. However, reports state that the companies have not disclosed any information about the product specifications, pricing, and launch date.

Major tech players have forayed into the smart TV product line like Samsung, Micromax, Intex, Xiaomi, Motorola, and One Plus. Over 40-45% of intelligent televisions were sold through online platforms revealing an average shopper’s comfort buying TVs online.

The Flipkart-Nokia partnership

Flipkart Senior VP and Head – Private Brands, Electronics & Furniture- Adarsh Menon said, “Nokia is a globally popular technology brand and enjoys immense brand recall, so we’re excited to start this journey with them to extend the brand into a fast-growing product segment.”

Additionally, Flipkart offers its own range of smart TVs under the label MarQ by Flipkart, which offers smart TVs with a screen size of 24 inches to 65 inches Ultra-HD, priced between Rs 6,999 to Rs 64,999.

Nokia VP Brand partnerships Vipul Mehrotra said that Flipkart’s understanding of the needs & behaviors of the Indian consumers and its reach would help it to make Nokia branded smart TVs accessible & affordable to many.
